GAWADAR THE PERSUIT OF HAPPINESS

Gwadar stands as the new heart line, a new commercial hub for the world. Surrounded by Dasht and Kolanch valleys a rich historical background tags Gwadar, ruled by Afrasiab, Khusro and Lahrasip Gwader saw the Advantest of Alexander the great followed by the rule of Chandara Gupta Moria in 303 B.C. A detailed history of the later period is missing, but some time Gwadar remains a centre for pirates their graves can still be traced at the bottom of Sanghar.A well-known Portuguese write of the 16th Century Manual de.f.Sauza in wrote a detail of Portuguese attack on Gwadar in his book (The history of Portuguese days in east) but the invaders were defeated by local Kalmat tribe as Mir Hamal Fought bravely .How ever, he was later captured and taken into custody. The Khan of Kalat Mir Naseer Khan Nori included in his realm in 1777. In 1783 Mir Naseer presented Gwadar to Taimur Sultan the defeated ruler of Muscat. Taimur Sultan, who recaptured Muscat, continued to rule gwader after the death of Mir Naseer Khan. Gwadar is located on the south-western of Arabian. It is ystratgetical located between three increasingly important regions: The oil-rich Middle East, heavily populated South Asia and the economically emerging and resource region of Central Asia. The government of Pakistan intends to develop the entire area in order to reduce its reliance in shipping on the port of Karachi. In addition to expanding port facilities, the Project aims to build industrial complexes in the area and to connect the town via a modern highway to the rest of Pakistan. Gawadar is expected as world greatest trade colidor more recognized than the the penumal cannal and swiss cannal. It is hoped that the Gwadar port would generate billions of dollars in revenues and create at least two million jobs. The Gwadar deep-sea port emerges as a place of great strategic value, enhancing Pakistan’s importance in the whole region, extending from the Persian Gulf through the Indian Ocean to Southeast Asia and the Far East. The government declared Gwadar port a “Special Economic Zone” in the budget, 2003-2004. All banks will open their branches, five star hotels will be built, offshore banking will be started, factories, warehouses and storage will be set up, the tourism industry will be promoted in the area, an export processing zone will be set up, making Pakistan a very attractive place for direct foreign investment, and Gwadar port a regional hub of trade and investment activities.Gwadar has a big airport for commercial aircrafts. There is a need for the expansion of the airport and enlargement of its runway to facilitate the landing of wide body aero-planes. Gwader will be the road to prosperity and Vision Gwadar will be the gateway of progress. Gwadar port will directly and indirectly bring lots of wealth, trade and infrastructure advancement to the area which has been traditionally left behind in developement. Dubai is the hub of business not only for Gulf but also for rest of the world including Europe, United States, Africa, China and Central Asian States, simultaneously. The gulf region is facing many political conflicts at the moment and huge disturbances in the current administrative structure are expected in the coming years. In such a scenario, a substitute of Dubai is essential to be located before the crisis hits the finances of millions. The substitute shall be a nearest point probably, to ensure continuous supply line of oil from Gulf to the outer world. Fortunately, Gawadar proves to be the nearest and infect more cost-effective substitute of Dubai, from many aspects.
Gawadar would be a free-trade zone and as a corridor to the Central Asian republics, It would also offer great opportunities for investors. Pakistan has already declared Gwadar a special economic zone and all imports coming through this zone will be exempted from customs duty and sales tax along with concessions on income tax. It is decided to give a seven-year tax exemption to industrial and commercial establishments in the Gwadar Special Economic Zone. This is expected to boost both domestic and foreign investment in this area, especially in such sectors as fish-processing, real estate, and tourism-related infrastructure and services.Gawadar is now destined to be the most important upcoming coastal town located on the inter junction of the three most strategically and economically important regions of the world that are oil rich Middle East, South Asia where one- fifth of world population lives and the Central Asian Republics endowed with mineral wealth and an educated and highly skilled and disciplined workforce

              Primary industries Agriculture
About 22.6% of the total land area is arable. Agricultural production was on the decline even before the 1979 hurricane disaster. The main crop of Dominica is bananas, output of which had fallen to 29,700 tons in 1978. As a result of Hurricane David, production hit a low of 15,700 tons in 1979. Agriculture suffered a further blow from Hurricane Allen in August 1980. However, after outside financial support began to rehabilitate the sector, production rose to 27,800 tons in 1981 and totaled 30,000 tons in 1999.
Agriculture accounts for about 20% of GDP and employs about 40% of the labor force. Agricultural exports amounted to $19.1 million in 2001. Most crops are produced on small farms, the 9,000 owners of which are banded together in about 10 cooperatives; there are also several large farms that produce mostly bananas for export. Other major crops are coconuts and citrus fruits which are grown in commercial quantities. Production for 1999 included coconuts, 11,000 tons; grapefruit, 21,000 tons; lemons and limes, 1,000 tons; and oranges, 8,000 tons. Fruits and vegetables are produced mostly for local consumption. Animal husbandry
There are about 2,000 hectares (4,900 acres) of pasture land, comprising 2.7% of the total land area. The island does not produce sufficient meat, poultry, or eggs for local consumption so there are large imports of animal products. In 2001 there were an estimated 540 head of cattle, 9,700 goats, 7,600 sheep, and 5,000 hogs. In 2001, production of meat totaled 1,300 tons; and milk, 6,100 tons. Fishing
Before Hurricane David, some 2,000 persons earned a living fishing in coastal waters, producing about 1,000 tons of fish a year and meeting only about one-third of the local demand. The hurricane destroyed almost all of the island’s 470 fishing boats; afterward, only about a dozen vessels could be reconstructed for use. In 2000, the catch was 1,150 tons, up from 552 tons in 1991.
There is a relatively large fishing industry in Dominica, but it is not modernized and almost exclusively serves the domestic market. A successful experiment in fresh-water prawn farming, supported by Taiwanese aid, has produced substantial amounts of prawns for the domestic and local markets. Japan has provided support for a fish landing and processing plant in Roseau. Forestry
Dominica has the potential for a lumber industry. Some 46,000 hectares (114,000 acres) are classified as forest, representing 61% of the total land area. In 1962, Canadian experts produced a study indicating that over a 40-year period the island could produce a yearly output of 22,000 cu m (800,000 cu ft) of lumber. Before Hurricane David, annual output had reached about 7,500 cu m (265,000 cu ft). There are some 280 hectares (700 acres) of government land allocated to commercial forestry and about 100 hectares (240 acres) of forestland in private hands. Commercially valuable woods include mahogany, blue and red mahoe, and teak. Total imports of forest products in 2000 amounted to $10.3 million. Mining
Dominica’s mining sector played a minor role in its economy. Pumice was the major commodity extracted from the island for export, and Dominica produced clay, limestone, volcanic ash, and sand and gravel, primarily for the construction industry. There is some mining potential in Dominica, especially in the island’s northeast where there are believed to be deposits of copper. Secondary industries
Dominica’s small manufacturing sector is almost entirely dependent on agriculture, and the island has built up a handful of successful industries specializing in soaps and other agricultural byproducts. The largest manufacturer is Dominica Coconut Products, controlled by Colgate-Palmolive, which produces soap from coconuts. The factory has an agreement to sell an estimated 3 million bars of soap each year to Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. Dominican soap is also exported throughout the region, but has recently encountered intensified competition from other regional producers, especially in the important export markets of Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.
There are four plants to process limes and other citrus fruits; two bottling plants; two distilleries; four small apparel plants; and four small furniture factories. Dominica exports water to its Caribbean neighbors; shoes, cement blocks, furniture, and soap and toiletries are also exported. Home industries produce some leather work, ceramics, and straw products.
Since the 1990s, the small manufacturing sector has been expanding at a modest pace, including electronic assembly, rum, candles, and paints. The Trafalgar Hydro Electric Power Station is now operational, making the island virtually energy self-sufficient. Industry accounted for 23% of GDP in 2001.
Dominica has not yet been able to attract significant numbers of foreign manufacturers, partly because its wage rates are relatively high and partly because its infrastructure is not suited to high-volume manufacturing. Like other islands, it seeks to attract investors with tax concessions and other financial inducements, but several offshore manufacturing plants have closed after their duty-free concessions expired, normally a 10-year span. Tertiary industries Tourism
Main article: Tourism in Dominica
Tourism in Dominica is mostly based around hiking in the rain forest and visiting cruise ships. Financial services
Dominica has tried to broaden its economic base by building up an offshore financial services sector. So far, a relatively small number of offshore banks and other international business companies have registered in Dominica, but the government is trying to attract more by making registration economical and easy. A Dominica-based International Business Company (IBC) can, for instance, be formed over the Internet, and the government has also granted operating licenses to several Internet gambling companies. The ease with which such companies can be formed and the secrecy surrounding their operations have led some critics to allege that Dominica may be facilitating money-laundering and tax evasion.
By James Asudi(CEO – Victoria Safaris)

Tourism is a dynamic profession and an ever changing field. I ever in tourism” despite several cancellations of already booked and confirmed trips in the African continent. With the diminishing numbers of wildlife due to global warming and human / wildlife conflict for the limited natural resources, Victoria safaris is putting its effort in creating New Africa Mountain hiking packages, Beach Holidays and Bush Safaris, Community and Cultural tourism packages and Adventure Travel in the Eastern Horn of the African continent which includes; Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania. These packages have limited visits to the Wildlife sanctuaries and are more oriented to the Communities living and co existing in the African wilderness.

Wildlife and Human Conflicts over Limited Natural Resources

World over, there is a shortage of land and water. This has resulted in human beings encroaching into the wildlife territory for land and water. God created man, Fauna and Flora and expected all to co exist on Earth. To day, man has over populated the earth and is destroying with impunity the Flora. The effect is that there is limited rain fall and as such in Africa, the destruction of tropical forests by man has led to serious famine and lack of water for the African populace and wildlife.

Imagine if the wildlife would be talking, in which court would we be sued on earth. Imagine if the wildlife had the ability to make ammunition to fight man, what world war would be on earth between the wildlife and humans? Let us respect our Fauna and Flora. The Laureate Prof. Wangare Mathai said; “If you destroy Nature, Nature will destroy you”

In view of the above, Victoria Safaris is encouraging Eco tourism in Africa and emphasizing in creation of new tourism packages leading to Africa Adventure Tours, Community and Cultural tourism plus beach holidays with limited visits into wildlife sanctuaries. Among the new packages that Victoria safaris have come with for the year 2009 and beyond include the following packages.

The activities that we offer for this year and beyond are also wide ranging and apart from the traditional wildlife viewing tours our clientèle are able to go on the following adventures: -

(www.abndigital.com) For many years a Kenyan safari was one of those “ticks” that the well-travelled globetrotter just had to have. However, a combination of bad publicity after the violence of the 2008 elections and the global economic crisis, meant tourism was in a tight spot. However, Kenya’s tourism sector has recorded a 16 percent growth in international arrivals for the first quarter of 2010. More than 330000 tourists came to see the sights in Kenya in the first three months of this year. The invasion was led by arrivals from the UK, United States and Italy.
Help answer the question about east africa tourism
Offered job by FATF center UK. Is it a scam?
Hello,

Make sure that you pay the amount of deposit that the company requires for complete confirmation cannot be assured without some cash deposit. With accommodation you can be sure that your safari will happen at the dates you have chosen. In between high Season and low season we have mid season from November to December 15th this is during the short rains.

Low season or off season starts in April until end of June each year. This is the Kenya winter time when the rains are received in the entire country. unfortunately this makes the roads in and out of the various parks impassable. This is when clients are advised to use local flights in the very disparately affected parks to connect their safari.

What you need while on safari:

Passport

3-4 short sleeved shirts or T-shirts 1-2 pairs of trousers

Tracksuit pants, Personal toiletries and a towel

Light sweater

<br />

Hat, Torch and spare batteries

Boots or trainers Shoes

Sleeping bag, Penknife

1-2 pairs shorts, Camera and film

Heavy sweater, Water bottle

Underwear, Sunglasses

Water / windproof jacket, Sewing kit

Sandals, Set of smart clothes & shoes

Please remember that Africa can be colder than you might expect particularly at night and in

the early morning

VACCINATIONS

Please consult your doctor or immunization center for the relevant vaccination requirements

to the countries to which you intend to visit.

YELLOW FEVER

vaccination is compulsory for most African countries. We also recommend vaccinations for

typhoid, tetanus, hepatitis, meningitis and cholera. Malaria is endemic in most parts of Africa.

It is your responsibility to take anti-malaria tablets and other preventive measures. You should

consult your doctor before your departure. We advice the use of insect repellant containing

DEET and wearing long sleeved shirts and trousers at night.

TRAVEL INSUARANCE

Personal travel insurance is recommendable. This should include comprehensive medical

cover repatriation, personal effects and luggage, as well as cancellation and curtailment

insurance.

FLYING DOCTORS’ SERVICES

In many parts of Africa, access to adequate health care can mean long, torturous journeys by

road. The Flying Doctors’ services operated by AMREF not only provide outreach and emergency

care to local communities in remote regions; it also provides a medical air evacuation services

to travelers. With a temporary registration fee of € 25.00 [valid for a month from the time of

registration] you can be evacuated from whenever you will be in case of any emergency, to the

best hospitals in Nairobi. The fee however does not cover the hospital or medical fee.

VALUABLES

Keep all your documents – Passports, money and jewelry in the hotel safety box

AVOID

Walking alone especially in the night. The safest way to move from one place to another is by

taking a cab. Rates differ from time to time and must be negotiated.

BE AWARE

Of the distractions by street children in order to facilitate jewelry snatching & pick pocketing.

MONEY

Traveler’s Cheque and other major credit cards are honored in major hotels ,lodges,

restaurants & big shops in Kenya.

In East Africa, the Masai community has been one of the symbols of Kenya and Tanzania. They are the famous colourful people who have managed to hold on to their traditional way of life till present time.

Together with Samburu, the Masai are members of the Nilotic tribal group, both of them cattle herders.

They came from Sudan and occupied the central Kenya, best parts for their huge cattle herds. These herds have been their measure of wealth which usually accumulates to adverse economic consequences. The bigger the herd size, the richer the owner.
Known for their red color clothing, the Masai have a reputation of being fierce warriors, though this has been often exaggerated.

Warrior hood system still continues today accompanied by traditional regalia, unchanged by time. This system is for the young males before they marry. The importance of this is to prepare the young males to be responsible people both for themselves and for their community.

The big responsibility of building the homestead (Manyatta) falls in the hands of the women. They are in charge of taking care of the entire home which includes milking cows, searching for firewood and preparing food for the entire family. Men generally make the tribal decisions and care for the cattle.

The homestead of the Masai consists of several thatched houses and smeared with cow dung on the walls. These houses are built in a circular design one next to the other. The central part is left open for the cattle and goats belonging to that particular village.

Most of the rest of East African people have long forgotten their traditional ways of life. The western way of life slowly deleted the traditions of some of them. The white man brought formal education including modern medicine and this was the exchange price for the age-old customs. While most communities accepted these with open hands, the Masai are yet to open their hands. Despite more than 33 years of self rule, red dress together with traditional rituals are still performed.

For centuries they have continued to believe that all the cattle in the world belong to them and were given to them by Enkai, the God. A fact that has been a source of trouble with other neighboring communities by generating inter-tribal conflicts. The young Masai morans (warrior) job is to protect the cattle of their fathers and to capture those of other communities, because in their folklore God gave them all the cattle.

What has won them the great fame over the decades is their courage. It is true that when they surrounded a marauding lion, they crossed on it and speared it to death. This fearlessness has not been seen in any other community in East Africa. In addition to this braveness, the Masai have won time and again admiration from foreigners visiting the country due to their nomadic way of life, not attachments to possessions, and togetherness banded by the age sets of those who underwent circumcision ritual together. When a young man reached junior elder hood he had the freedom to have sex with the wives of other elders, his comrades, if he so wished.
Likewise, a Masai woman belonged to the entire age-set and sexual jealousy did not exist.

Ornamentation is very important and takes a big part of the Masai tribe. They have very beautiful bead-work that they make for themselves and also sell to tourists. Each age set makes its own pattern.

Tourism has taken its toll too on the way of life of the Masai and Samburu people. The construction of tourist hotels in the Masai land imposed further restrictions to their movement and introduced a different way of life for those working in these resorts. The villages near the lodges do make some income from selling their hand –made crafts that include spears, beadwork and customary dances.

Natural Track Safaris is a Tours and Safaris agency in Nairobi. The adventure excursions take you to the famous national parks of Kenya and Tanzania.
